Ask a CIM student:
what is assignment?
On June 2nd, we had the opportunity to celebrate an impressive achievement: Marketing Academy students achieved a 100% pass rate in the "Marketing & Digital Strategy" module, tutored by Yaroslav Humeniuk.
So, what is a CIM assignment? What is its significance value for marketing professionals?
Let's ask the students!

biotechnology, working for international companies.

She achieved one of the highest grades in the assignment, so we took
the opportunity to ask more details.
Alina Bohdan
— Alina, what was your story behind choosing marketing as a profession and why did you make a decision to gain the "Diploma in Professional Marketing" program?
Starting as a sales manager for outsourcing software development companies in Ukraine, I eventually transitioned into marketing in the ever-evolving IT industry.
Through close collaboration with American companies like LeadsMarket, I had the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of:
-
Studying consumer behavior models
-
Tracking market trends
-
Working in a cross-cultural environment
For almost eight years I created and promoted online products in the IT sector. In 2022, I received an offer from the innovative startup NEMIS Technologies in Switzerland, in the dynamic biotech industry. However, professional development is impossible without continuous learning, so I pursued professional development through the Chartered Institute of Marketing to further enhance my marketing skills. The practical focus of the CIM qualification, which includes
case studies, practical assignments, and workplace-based projects, particularly appealed to me.
— What is a CIM assignment? What topics are normally chosen for it?
A CIM assignment is the summary of each module. Students choose the topic themselves and rely on the knowledge gained during the module to complete it. This is valuable because you can select a topic that is beneficial for the company you work in.
- For the "Marketing & Digital Strategy" assignment I chose a topic strengthening relationships with key stakeholders based on long-term strategic vision of NEMIS Technologies company.
- For the "Innovation in Marketing" assignment, I easily selected the topic of competitive advantage through customer experience based on the LeadsMarket company. This topic delved into innovative approaches, technologies, and practices to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
— Alina, you mentioned that you chose CIM because of its practical focus. Can you share some examples?
Yes, absolutely. The greatest advantage of studying at CIM is its practical approach. For
example, at NEMIS Technologies we set goals to:
-
Establish a company’s presence in the UK market
-
Find new marketing channels & acquire new customers
-
Expand the number of influencers/opinion leaders to promote the brand
All these goals we planned to accomplish within a limited budget. We differentiated marketing
channels, segmented our target audience, and developed a clear two-stage strategy:
The first stage:
-
Shifted the content focus from quality specialists to decision-makers involved in implementing innovative technologies in food production.
-
Expanded the list of keywords to generate traffic to trending topics.
-
Promoted internal experts and opinion leaders with whom we are already in collaboration, as a source of industry insights.
-
Chosen Linkedin as a main social media channel in addition to email campaigns, and the website blog.
The second stage:
-
Created a different type of content for each stage in marketing funnel.
-
Improved website conversion through remarketing.
-
Entered the top 10 for highly competitive keywords in the UK market.
As a result, the company received:
-
5 leads from remarketing in three months.
-
3 clients from the target industry in the UK in 6 months. This was already three times more clients from digital marketing compared to the previous year.
-
20% monthly organic traffic growth..
Such example shows how writing assignment helps in achieving business objectives. In my opinion, gaining professional education should help exactly like this.
- This is a great result!
How challenging was the writing assignment for you?
It wasn’t easy.
However, if you work step-by-step, you have a great opportunity to transform acquired knowledge into practical steps. Moreover, nothing is impossible for a marketing professional.😉
Don’t forget that time management is also crucial.
I am super grateful for the tremendous support from the CIM community. Invaluable connections and knowledge gained from tutors and group mates, motivated to achieve better results.
